One of the two Raptors ("delayed due to maintenance") which departed Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan, after the bulk of the returning 27th EFS was 04-4066. A first photo proof is the following official USAF picture, taken on May 10, 2007, at Andersen AFB, Guam, and released by 36th Wg PA on May 28:

A Transient Alert maintenance technician examines F-22A Raptor no. 04-4066 following its arrival May 10th, 2007.

For more related info please check our F-22 Raptor news Andersen Transient Alert services two F-22s, adopted from 36th Wg public website!

According to the 36th Wg PA news, 04-4066 and another (still unidentified) Raptor arrived "unexpected" at Anderson AFB, Guam, on May 10. Both Raptors "only needed to be refueled and the normal ground servicing". That means, both delayed Raptors left Kadena AB on the same day as the ten others. That goes conform with an AP news which stated:

Quote:
Two of the newest — and most expensive — fighters in the U.S. Air Force wrapped up a three-month deployment and roared out of Japanese skies Thursday, completing the F-22 stealth fighter's debut on the international stage.

[...] The planes, the last of a dozen F-22s on the deployment, left the southern Japanese island of Okinawa several hours later than the rest because of "maintenance concerns," the Air Force said in a statement from Kadena Air Base on Okinawa.

The statement did not elaborate on what the problems were.

It said after a complete check, the planes were approved to leave Kadena and move to "another location in the Pacific region." The first 10 F-22s departed Kadena on schedule before dawn Thursday for their home base in Langley, Virginia. [...]

Meanwhile, it should be clear that this AP news was the main source for our F-16 news Technical problems delay F-22 Raptors' departure from Okinawa. Their arrival date at Guam (May 10) also confirms the following USAF news (already posted in this topic):

Quote:
5/10/2007 - KADENA AIR BASE, Japan (AFNEWS) -- After almost three months in the Pacific, 12 F-22A Raptors departed here May 10 having completed the first overseas deployment for the Air Force's newest air supremacy aircraft. [...]

Deployed F-22s leave Pacific, return to Langley

In contrast, the original PACAF version (partially also posted in this topic) stated:

Quote:
5/9/2007 - KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- After almost three months in the Pacific, ten F-22s departed here May 10 upon completion of the first overseas deployment for the Air Force's newest air supremacy aircraft.

Two aircraft were delayed due to maintenance and are scheduled to depart within a couple of days. [...]

Source:
F-22 Raptors end deployment to Pacific

That suggest, at least at that time PACAF must had "clear" indications for a longer delay ("a couple of days")! As further known, the bulk of the 27th EFS left Kadena AB for Hickam AFB, Hawaii. From there, two waves of four aircraft each left for CONUS, probably as scheduled. Two other Raptors remained at Hickam to await the arrival of both delayed aircraft and to form a third four-ship with destination CONUS.

According to checksixx, there was no stopover point at the West Coast - from Hawaii, the Raptors returned directly to Langley AFB, Virginia, on the East Coast. Related to the distance, that´s simply great!

Anybody from Langley´s F-22A professionals who can/will tell us: How many flight hours lasted the non-stop trip from Hawaii back home to Langley, and was "supercruise" used? And can/will tell you us some more background info and additional facts & figures related to this historic Raptor deployment? The entire F-16.net team would be very grateful for any support!

Last but not least: According to all of these facts, and at least in my eyes, the delay of the two Raptors was really not newsworthy. Please remember the ironic reply from checksixx:

Laughing Wink

Yeah! And AP generated some more dollars with a "news story" which was - only as a sample - published by the renowned "International Herald Tribune" with the headline "Technical problems delay US F-22 fighters´departure from first overseas deployment". But please understand: In fact, such delays "due to maintenance" are not unusual, including USAF AEF deployments/re-deployments for OIF/OEF to/from the U.S. CENTCOM AOR via Moron AB, Spain, or Lajes Field, Azores.

J.J....I can't be 100 percent, but I doubt supercruise was used. It would not be the most fuel efficient way to travel. I would guess a high altitude normal cruise speed was used.

"Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor 'Kadena Air Base'" has markings and serial numbers for the 12 USAF F-22A that temporarily deployed to Kadena AB, Okinawa Prefecture, in 2007.
