Was announced that the 525th FS will stand back up to become one of the F-22 squadrons at Elmendorf .. Along with the 90th FS which will be the first operator of the Raptor in AK .
One question I have is what happens to the 12th and 19th FS ? I thought McPeak was gone with all his changing all the squadrons and wings around ...

Very nice rhinophan!! Although the only place to send the 525 FS would be........ Bitburg AB, Germany!!!! I still remember the times down there with three F-15 units buzzing around and Spangdahlem AB just visible to the east. Those were the days and A LOT of activity!!
I had also hoped for some quietness in the squadron changes, but I guess I was wrong!! The 12th and 19th could be de-activated as they are rather young squadrons compared to the 90th ans 525th. The 12th actually transferred from Kadena AB, Japan, in the early 1990s replacing the 54 FS at Elmendorf AFB.
Greetings,
Henrik. |

Hey Henrick...
Now see I would have thought they would have found some older Pacific squadron to resurect .. ( sorry for spelling ) .. Like they did with the 535th AS at Hickam them being at the very least a C-7 squadron from the Vietnam era .. And the recently announced standing up of the 531st FS at Hickam as the first Active Duty associate squadron for the Raptor .. They have CBI and PACAF F-100 liniege ..
The 12th FS actually went to Elmendorf from Kadena in the 2000/2001 time frame as they 54th FS deployed Jet's to LN and crews to Cervia during Allied Force...
Now I thought the reason for moving the 19th to Elmendorf was partly to keep there history since Mcpeak want to make Shaw into the 20th .. ??
Funny as I thought I read they are bringing the old AF emblem back as well replacing the more modern one that they have been using the past several years .. Whay change it in the first place ?
Something else that I do find funny is the put Hog's into Moody .. Then they took them out .. Now they are putting them back again ..

| They certainly are NOT the second active duty F-22 squadron! More like the 3rd active combat capable squadron or the second operational wing. |

26 people to run a whole squadron incl. 20 planes - not THAT'S efficiency! Truly the AF of tomorrow |

| Looks like someone should have done a little more research before writing that article. |

It takes at least 10 people in the pay office to process 3 sets of TDY orders. Who are they trying to kid? |

That's the other side of efficiency - you get to fix your own paycheck
Guess where the next budget crisis will be |

| I was at Bitburg in TA in the early 80's and we loved going to the 525th. The mascot then was named Apex after the Ruski's missile. If you made a missile lock on tone sound he would attack your ankle and start biting it.....only way to get him to stop was to say "Knock it off". If I hadn't seen all that myself I would have never believed it. Glad to see the Bulldogs back. |

I feel privileged to be the 525's AMU OIC...to answer your question about the 12th...I believe it will be activated at Kadena in the future. The 19th will remain at Elmo with C model 15's.
The amount of people quoted in the article only included the number of ops ...the AMU will have 180 maintainers assigned. |
