I'm sure Mike Kopack has reams of paperwork from Doha, but that's just something that I knew right where it was on his site.

Thanks Scott! Yes, we definatly were the 401st TFW(P) during our time in Qatar (sometimes even more 'Provisional' than we'd hoped...)

I only wish I had more official paperwork from the Gulf to add to the site, the vast majority of what is there has been sent in by all those that were there with me. The latest update to the site has 'modern' photos from Bill Hinchey (87-0257's Crew Chief) showing a 'get together' of some of our guys recently and some great shots of 257's canopy as it now sits in the Pima Air Museum.

Deployed F-16 units (General Overview)

7740th Composite Wing (Provisional) F-16 Division

Incirlik AB, Turkey

612th TFS, 401st TFW (USAFE), Torrejon AB, Spain
24 F-16C
(Deployment date: 18 January 1991)

Hello J.J.,

Once more many thanks for Your great effort to expand the information in this very interesting subject!!

However, the 612th TFS was in place at Incirlik AB, Turkey, by Dec. 1990 and I strongly believe that the 23rd TFS was, as well!!

The 612th TFS "ScreaminŽEagles" had been deployed on a "expanded training exercise" along with the 79th TFS / 20th TFW F-111Es already on TDY at Incirlik for their planned weapons training camp on the Konya ranges.

During Aug. 1990 the 52nd TFW deployed several F4/F-16s to Karup AB, Denmark, as their "work-up" for the up-coming deployments to Turkey and the Gulf region.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Wow, great shot! With photography like that why'd they let you work on airplanes? Wink

Mike

This is Bill Hinchey the now retired crew chief of 87-0257, visiting 'his' canopy, now at the Pima Air Museum.

Na!!! Since I took good photos, they let me stay on the line!!!!! Smile

I'm in the process of scanning ALL my photos (Desert Storm and Peactime) and will get them on a DVD. Mike: I'll send you a copy since you're a good spokesman for the 614th.

Later

Could use some help identifying some of the exact aircraft that deployed for Desert Storm. What aircraft do you know went?

Hey Jon, Sorry I didn't back sooner! You had me racking my brain for awhile. I was eighteen then and have killed alot of brain cells since then (beer and fuel fumes).

I Know 79-0400 was there and crash before the war started, bearing in the engine seized on a fam flight over Saudi. Aircraft 80-0504 was flown over to replace that.

Aircraft 79-0391 was shot up by AAA and the ecm pod on the right wing absorbed most of it. Some of the AAA went into the back engine bay area and hit the main fuel line that hooks into the engine. The pilot did an outstanding job bringing the jet back to the base. When we went out to EOR fuel was pouring out of the back of the jet with fire truck foam everwhere. I am part of the Zeen / crash team thats why I was there.
After it was put back together on takeoff roll the nose steering went and the right 370 hit a runway light and the jet caught fire and the pilot ejected safely. First ejection I witnessed and I hope I never have to again. I will look around I have some pictures ogf the jet after the accident.

Hello all,

87-0270 as it looked when deployed to Incirlik AB for "Proven Force" operations - although here it is painted in the 480th TFS red tail colors. It was operated by the 23rd TFW when deployed to Turkey.

In the foreground the nose of 88-0400 "480th TFS" is visible.

Greetings,

Henrik.

Amazing seeing Bill Hinchey. I knew him as an Engine mechanic at Moody when we still had F4s. I'll try to dig out and scan my photos that have while deployed with the 33rd from Shaw. Thanks for all the work on this!

Thanks for your reply, spencejm! So I hope, you will add some more related photos and info. Please note: On my PC I have a well-researched database in case of Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm F-16 deployments. But excuse me, in the last months I was very busy to document Viper deployments to Balad AB, Iraq, for OIF.

The 50th TFW from Hahn AB Germany sent some jets as the 10th TFS but it was really a composite squadron of people and acft from the 313th TFS and 496th TFS as well.

Since the aircraft were being repainted because Hahn was in the process of shutting dow, the deployed jets had "DS" as a tail code.

There is only one known picture. It was in Code One Magazine.
