Hi,

I am in 7th grade and I have a teacher who realy inspires us and his dream is to fly in a F-16. I would need it to be in Georgia or close to it if possible. Me and my classmates are willing to round up some money for him to do this. Can you help?

Thanks,
Dustin

Nice gesture Dustin!! Unfortunately paying the military isn't what gets the person a ride. It's who you know. Talk with a local community leader in a town with F-16's, they can sometimes arange things like this.

Dustin,

Your class could raise money for your teacher to run for Congress....... (Big Politicians rate incentive rides)

Sometimes the mayor of a major city with an Air National Guard unit will be authorized a ride.

If your class wants to see him in a fighter jet, the easiest route would be a ride in a MIG.

See: http://www.incredible-adventures.com/migs/index.html for further information. Shop around there are different companies/packages on the market.

Dustin,

I think the man to help you is Senator Zell Miller. He's one of the two senators from the state of Georgia that could help you make it happen. He was in the Marine Corps for some time, so he probably would rather see your teacher get a ride in an F-18. It wouldn't be the same as an F-16 of course, but it comes in at a close second. You can visit his website to learn more about him if you want. It's http://miller.senate.gov/. Your class should write him a letter as soon as possible and include why you think your teacher is deserving of a fighter ride. Be sure to write him soon, because his term in office ends this January.

By the way where do you live? I think there are F-18's at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta GA. I know there are T-38's in Valdosta, GA, F-15's at Robins Air Force Base (AFB) in Warner Robins GA and F-16's in Sumter SC at Shaw AFB. At the very least maybe you could visit one of those bases and get your teacher in a simulator. Good luck buddy!

You could also tell your teacher to go to OTS and apply to UPT and fly Vipers all the time, just a thought.

Dustin,
Are you near Moody AFB in Valdosta, GA? If so, maybe we could have your class by and get some simulator time and visit to a few aircraft. Let me know in a private message, and I'll give you a number you can call.

Thanks,
Cylon

Well done Cylon! A lot of people don't see the great things the men and women of the military do everyday with the community! Seeing the smiles on those kids faces (if the visit comes to be) would be all one needs!

I am less than educated on the politics surrounding military aircraft. That being said, I am wondering how difficult it is for a civilian to arrange a backseat ride in an F16. My father is a pilot, and it is his dream (as it is MANY others') to one day ride in an F-16. How likely is it that his dream could come true? Who would we have to "know" and/or what is the cost?

You have to be someone important and or famous. You cant just sign up, aint gonna happen for your Average Joe. They dont sell F-16 rides but you can pay for MIG rides in Russia.

Sweetpete beat me to it.

Unless you're a member of Congress or a cabinet member, someone who controls budget funding, or a VIP that can give good PR to the USAF you can probably forget about ever getting in. You don't just walk up to your local F-16 base and say, "Hey..I'm a taxpayer..give me ride".

Heck, you can be a flightline puke for decades and never get a ride! But, if you're a hot weatherbabe at the local station, maybe. Shocked
